It's fairly mediocre. Technically, it's a zombie series (with a werewolf in the mix), but in practice it's about two dead bounty hunters with bad personalities. I imagine them as Tooru Honda's two boyfriend candidates from Fruits Basket.
1. SHITO is tall, cool and bored-looking, with no positive emotions or likeable traits. He's a male ice queen. (In Fruits Basket terms, he's Yuki the rat.)
2. CHIKA is a hot-blooded, arrogant, rude idiot who's always yelling and threatening violence. (In Fruits Basket terms, he's Kyou the cat.) If he ever became polite, you'd arrest him as an imposter and look for the real Chika. He's also greedy and money-grubbing, although there's a reason for that. He's in a zombie-hunting partnership with Shito and they seem to hate each other. Fair enough. I hated them both too. If they both remove their right hands and do a swap, this creates weapons (a sword and a gun), but it's unclear why they don't keep their hands permanently switched.
3. There's also a schoolgirl, MICHIRU, who gets forcibly recruited in ep.1. She has magic eyes that let her see when someone's going to die, or indeed if they're already dead and so a zombie. She's always hated this power, but it's a moneymaker for undead bounty hunters. Michiru's a bit of a doormat at first, but gradually grows a spine (while remaining nice).
Things I liked in this show include: (a) the female characters, including Koyomi/Yomi's boobs and split personality, (b) the cute pocket-sized shinigami Michiru will eventually adopt, (c) the nasty people who've taken an interest in Shito over the decades and the slightly sentient golem girl who cares for him when he's kidnapped.
I don't hate this show, but it's not very interesting. Our heroes hunt the dead. Yes, and? They work for a company called Z-Loan which extends loans only to the dead. Why? Wouldn't that be a precariously narrow customer base? All this is okay, though. There's nothing actually wrong with it, except in ep.12 when some contrived rivals appear and issue a pointless challenge. That episode can bog off. The show doesn't even have a proper ending, because it's based on a manga that was only halfway through when this aired. Instead, we get something vaguely cliffhanger-like to entice us to watch a Season 2 that never happened. This isn't even a horror show, despite its undead trappings. (There are almost no mindless shambling zombies.) It's just shounen adventure nonsense, except with enough pretty boys with bad personalities to make you wonder about the target demographic.
Oh, and its theme song is rubbish.
