Narita Airport's full of zombies. Nine people find a shopping mall... yes, nine. The show's title does indeed say "six", but don't worry. There will be only six left soon.
This series is based on a manga and its problem is that our heroes have nothing to do. They're stuck in that mall with lots of free time. They eat, flirt, play stupid games and try our patience. "Beast" Kashimoto is a social media influencer and appears to be an intelligent person whose life goal is being a vapid airhead. Hirasaka loves himself, weight training and girls (in descending order of priority). The self-appointed leader, Renren, disapproves of dangerous actions like saving a stranger's life. Three of these six episodes contain little of interest, e.g. going on dates and playing pranks on each other's love lives, so you can fast-forward through those.
The zombie scenes are more interesting. No, really. They are. One zombie just sits on a bench looking depressed and eventually gives our heroes a nod through the window. Besides, even old-school zombie attack scenes are more interesting than watching idiots do nothing at length. There are also some likeable, practical characters, e.g. Riri the gerbil-faced survivor who's been outside for longer than the others and believes in protecting your life. She's gobsmacked that anyone could pursue romance under these circumstances. Beast replies that you've got to keep yourself going somehow or you'll go insane. For some people, that means their worthless lives as usual.
I also liked Jin, the modest young chap who does the cleaning.
The show's quite serious and well made. The cast are good and they can do justice to stronger material when it appears. I liked the episodes where the zombie threat comes closer. The zombie love at the end of ep.6 made me laugh aloud. When it's good, this is a decent mini-series. I'd cautiously recommend it. Even the sillier episodes have moments that surprised me or made me smile, e.g. the doo-wop music number in ep.3. You'll see the world's most useless bat attack. (It's amazing that she survived that long.) The show subverts expectation and has some interesting touches.
Feel free to skip episodes 2-4, though. Or do something else while you watch.
