Seifuku SurviGirl 2
I liked the first film, but this sequel is worse acted and stupider.
It starts with the first film's two survivors are in hospital. One of them's screaming in an isolation tent as she transforms into Kew Gardens. The doctors haven't done anything wrong there yet. The other one's physically okay but possibly in shock and being bullied to "hurry up and remember" by aggressive nurses who can sod off. (It's quite possible that she's already told them what happened, but they don't believe her and are harassing her anyway.)
The film's title sequence includes a picture of sperm swimming towards an egg. Hmmmm.
The still-human survivor (Aoi) escapes and heads for the place where plant-zombies try to kill you with swords. That seems inadvisable, but she feels guilty about her friends' deaths there. She tries to hitch-hike there. Her attempts are unsuccessful and occasionally silly until she unbuttons her top and shows her bra. A car stops. She climbs in. We don't know what happens next, but we have our suspicions about the movie's theme. On reaching Survival Land, she meets her boyfriend, Ryuuhei, who'd been searching for her and is being played by an amazingly rubbish actor. She tells him to leave immediately for his own safety. He refuses (and so will end up dead). She doesn't explain why he should leave, or even tell him about the plant-zombies. They're both idiots.
Ryuuhei finds a zombification death flower, picks it and puts it in his breast pocket. We're screaming at Aoi to notice... but this is actually the common audience error of thinking characters know everything that happened in the previous film. She doesn't recognise the flower and just thinks it's creepy.
Two people get killed and turned into plant-zombies in front of Aoi and Ryuuhei, so a few minutes later they have sex. Killer zombies make you horny, eh? This kind of silliness is common in horror movies, but it's still ridiculous. This film can't even use the "hey, exploitation!!" argument because this is a family-friendly zombie series that doesn't show tits. (Except on men.) A few scenes later, Aoi is vomiting and pregnant. Whoah, hang on. Clearly it's due to evil zombie plant infection, but even so. (REAL BIOLOGY: it might take sperm days to swim to the egg.) The film then becomes a two-hander with Aoi and Ryuuhei mishandling the possibilities of infection, pregnancy, etc. while those plant-zombies I mentioned stay thoughtfully out of the way. (Well, for a while. They return eventually.)
The zombie chase/fight scenes are okay.
Aoi's actress isn't doing her best work, but in fairness her character's not always rational. Ryuuhei appears in Krynoid mode. Left side human, right side overgrown with ivy. "Hurry up, Ryuuhei, let's get out of here! It's not too late!" (No, that looks like the definition of "too late" to me.)
Eventually, we return to that hospital. I think you know why. The baby's hairy, but in fairness that sometimes happens in real life. The finale's so predictable that you could almost sing along, but the film's final shot is effective.
In short, this sequel is nowhere near as good as its predecessor... but at least it's doing something new instead of the usual remake-as-sequel. (Same director, but a different scriptwriter.) I'd be interested in seeing a third episode in the series, although they'd need a proper budget because it looks as if the apocalypse might be under way. This isn't even in the same timezone as "a good film", but I didn't hate it. I've seen worse.
