The title's accurate. It's a live-action TV series about idiots. It's also reasonably good, but every so often I'd want to push everyone into a river.
1. TERADA AKI is the show's heroine. After catching her boyfriend cheating on her, she needs somewhere to live. A new boyfriend wouldn't hurt either, although she's in no hurry there. How about moving into a sharehouse? She tries this and meets...
2. HONGYOU TOMOYA, her first love. He's a handsome, successful novelist, but his girlfriends always leave him because he's a stoic, unresponsive lump who's capable of saying things like "I've never considered her feelings." For the last two years, he's never had an erection and hasn't made progress on his latest novel. Whoops. Since these might easily be connected, he has a favour to ask Terada. Could they sleep together? No sex, nothing dodgy, just platonically sharing a bed and doing nothing she doesn't want to. He might finally pop a boner!
"I want you to help me. I won't do anything weird."
...as if that doesn't describe this whole arrangement. "Weird" is all over you, mate. What's more, Tereda says yes. Will she have conflicted feelings? You bet. Also, their handsome additional housemate (Hase Taichi) proposes marriage to her, while Hongyou has a beautiful fan (Kuritani Akari) who thinks he's wonderful.
Fundamentally, this is a romance. Which girl will end up with which boy? There's the Main Couple, the Male Love Rival and the Female Love Rival. There's nothing wrong with all that and it's a perfectly good series, if you can take our heroes' ability to say the wrong thing and completely misunderstand someone... but it's the weirdness that makes it memorable. This includes:
1. Terada feeling her way through dodgy conversations, situations and misunderstandings. She won't always be the innocent party, but she doesn't know what she's doing.
2. "Sorry, I just ejaculated on your arse."
3. Hongyou discussing cats' barbed penises, then biting Terada.
The funniest character is Akari, who's weird, self-centred and will have bizarre, frank conversations with Terada. She might scold you for apologising even though you'd done nothing wrong, for instance, and calls it an insult to the recipient of the apology. Also, Taichi can be slightly disturbing in his happy, friendly assertion that sex doesn't mean anything (although he sometimes seems to be trying to convince himself), but he wasn't helped by his mildly hateful mother.
This show is a bit of a roller-coaster. Terada and Hongyou will make your hair stand on end, or perhaps (in episode 9) make you say "idiots", "sod off" and "why why why did you say it like that, oh good grief." If the human race were all like that, we'd go extinct. The show can definitely be funny, though. I wouldn't watch it again, but it definitely stands out from the pack.
