Deer Friend Nokotan
It's nonsense, really. Sometimes I laughed, but it's a silly gag anime and that's it. Noko is a schoolgirl who says she's a deer and has antlers. I've no idea what she really is, but...
(a) in reality, only male deer have antlers. (Well, except for reindeer.) Some fans have inferred that Noko must be trans, but the flaw in this argument is that the show couldn't give a damn about logic, reality or facts.
(b) Noko's super-nose can smell that Koshi Torako used to be a delinquent (and Torako gets aggressive when her secret's found out).
(c) Noko's antlers can glow, explode, fall off, become soup, smash through walls or be opened up because they're just antler-shaped lunchboxes, containing bananas. Also, Noko can open up her head and store things in there, e.g. money. Don't take this seriously. She's always back to normal a moment later.
(d) the show treats deer on a par with gorillas, grizzly bears, etc. Deep-voiced choristers will chant SHIKA!! (Japanese for deer) as if on a horror film soundtrack. In fairness, though, deer can get big and hitting one with your car can write off the vehicle. Also, don't annoy a buck/stag.
(e) Noko's obsession is a famous but somewhat tasteless rice cracker that visitors feed to the sacred bowing deer in Nara Park.
(f) "A deer must be able to grow antlers at will."
(g) you can make a living ball of antlers that wrap around as if made of rubber. These even become a very minor (although mute and probably non-sentient) character in the show.
The show's most obvious point of comparison is Puniru Is a Cute Slime, another 2024 gag anime about a non-human schoolgirl with impossible powers. Personally, I prefer Puniru. They're both fun and have a reasonably entertaining cast, but Puniru also has a normal, functional narrative (and has already had a second season, unlike this show). This show takes nothing seriously and even takes lampoons anime finales when a character complains "what happened to that very serious cliffhanger in episode 11?" (Answer: forget it, the show already has.) Sure, its episodes will have plots. Something's always happening, but nothing matters.

Supporting characters (with animal-themed names):
1. TORAKO KOSHI ("tiger-girl") = semi-criminal ex-delinquent who pretends to be girly and virtuous. In practice, she's just the short-tempered straight man for a cast of loons. I liked her.
2. ANKO KOSHI (maybe angler fish?) = psycho who's incestuously obsessed with her sister, Torako. Some fans have disliked this because it's yet more incest in anime. This would be understandable in a normal show, but here it's just another ridiculous thing on the pile.
3. MEME BASHAME (horse) = wants to be a deer. She likes rice and always looks dozy and serene. That's about it, really.
4. NEKO NEKOYAMADA (cat cat cat) = the small vice-president of the school Student Council, but also the Deer Club's secret arch-enemy. She's a dictatorial, vindictive egomaniac who can become almost suicidal if you point out her trivial mistakes. She can be funny and is the nearest we have to a character with goals and motivations.
5. CHIHARU TSUBAMEYA (swallow) = a secret fan of Nokotan and of deer in general.
6. THE NARRATOR = the only significant male character, albeit permanently offscreen. The other characters sometimes hear and respond to his narration.
I wouldn't particularly recommend this show and its Japanese wordplay doesn't usually translate well, but feel free to try a random episode. It has an earworm theme song that's been used in lots of fan mini-animations, especially with other franchises' characters. It has deliberately clashing stylistic shifts, e.g. the realistic 3D CGI deer, or Fist of the North Star faces when someone's being serious. The show wouldn't work if you tried to marathon it, but the odd episode here and there wouldn't hurt. It's somewhat amusing. If nothing else, it's a gag anime that successfully carries 24-minute episodes and won't make you wish they'd done 12-minute episodes instead.
