Mofuku Furin Kurotabi Fujin
It's surprisingly low-key for Daisuke Yamanouchi. No horror, no gore and no death unless you count the father of the family whose long-ago passing is being commemorated. The film also has no zombies, yakuza, supernatural or content you couldn't observe by going next door. It's not particularly shocking. It's has some mildly twisted content, eventually, but this takes a while to be revealed and you might miss some layers of it if you're not Japanese.
It's a realistic drama... but also mostly sex scenes. A family has gathered to mark the thirteenth anniversary of grandad's death. That's a Buddhist tradition. It's the 12th year after death in a counting system where the year of death is Year One. This is one of several key anniversaries for honouring the deceased (1st, 3th, 7th, 13th, 33rd) although of course one should visit the family grave every August in Obon. Also, Japan's stricter than us about funeral protocol, correct clothes, etc.
This particular family seems to be mostly just having sex. They're not depraved wife-swappers, mind you, or into threesomes or doing it in the open. The worst that happens is a surprising match-up.
This is an extremely simple film. It's examining one small family. That's it. We meet brothers, their wives, a university-aged son, etc. It's better than you'd think and feels like a proper (albeit cheap and unremarkable) movie rather than pornography, despite being full of sex scenes. I wouldn't particularly recommend it, but it's okay.
