It's the kind of sleaze that'll even annoy sleazehounds. Makina is a sexbot who might go around naked almost for whole episodes at a time and wants to have sex with Eita... but he's aghast and she doesn't know what sex involves. Yes, despite being a sexbot. No one's taught her the birds and bees and she never thinks of, say, downloading the internet. This is a sex comedy with no chance of sex, because Eita would faint and Makina's too stupid to research easily accessible information. Even when she's resting her naked boobs on the top of Eita's head, this almost feels like a kiddie cartoon. "You think I can just kiss you when we haven't even had sex? No way! Kissing is way too high a hurdle to clear! I need to warm up with copulation first! What comes next when people fornicate?"
RESULT: the show's not sexy. Nudity becomes a mere costume if you have a character naked for so long that people stop paying attention to it. That's normal for Makina. There's something oddly bland about her empty nudism, especially when the tone is inconsequential light comedy. Makina's home allegedly blows up in episode 1, but that's just a plot contrivance to get her into Eita's house and the show immediately forgets about it. Maybe Makina herself did it, to get closer to Eita?
"I am a sexual love robot, an android agent designed to seduce and manipulate my targets," she says, making Eita her first mission. No one requested this. She's public-spirited. Eita, though, is the kind of innocent, thoroughly nice boy who'll arouse the wrath of those sleazehounds I mentioned. To quote one outraged post I found... "Honestly I thought it was a waste of an ecchi slot, along with the rest that came out this season. The MC was one of the cringiest examples of the spineless pathetic doormat crybaby that's allergic to girls trope I've ever seen. I bailed on it after two episodes because I couldn't stand to listen to his shit for another second. So few decent ecchi shows get made these days it was a shame to waste one on this. Would have rather 2.5 Seduction get an uncensored release than this get made at all. I'm really not liking that the whole doormat/cuck/NTR/femdom thing is basically taking over the echhi releases these days."
It's rampant exploitation, but anti-sexy. Anyone who might go looking for it is likely to run a mile after watching an episode or two. Who's the target audience, then? Answer: no one. I wouldn't recommend it. However...
The show's fairly pointless, but it's also amiable and light-hearted. It works okay on a Saturday morning cartoon level. Eita and Makina are dim, but nice. There's a supporting character who learned everything she knows about sexuality from Boys' Love manga. (Someone needs to talk to her, or at least give teach more accurate information about prostate glands.) Makina also has robot sisters. How does that work? Don't ask me. SISTER #1: Imose Mimika pretends to be an innocent little girl, but is the kind of villain whose idea of a moneymaking scheme means sending out her sister as a prostitute and/or livestreaming homemade gonzo porn. Makina likes both ideas and is only foiled by the fact that she still hasn't learned about sex yet. SISTER #2: Sakimori Alma is a combat robot who can't hurt anyone due to Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics and is too stupid to realise this. Her introduction is funny, emerging from a river in full combat gear and trying to keep her identity secret.
"Did you see that I am a combat android?" demands Sakimori, but then realises. "Ah! I have accidentally released intel! The problems have compounded!" Her solution is to eliminate the witness.
"But I'll die!" points out the girl who'd been passing.
"Don't worry, I'm only going to blow your head off," explains Sakimori reassuringly, then remembers that she can't hurt human beings. Whoops. Well, if you can't go to one extreme, you might as well go to its opposite! "As you know my secret, I will acknowledge you as my master and do whatever you say."
Eita also has a sympathetic, broad-minded landlady who doesn't object to dirty deeds (not realising that they're not doing them), but would prefer everyone to keep their voices down.
It's goofy nonsense, really. It's the kind of anime that telegraphs surprise by having people fall over with their legs in the air. In this universe, AI labs are high-tech Frankenstein laboratories, full of glass tanks containing naked robot women. Also, Makina is a sentient AI with human-level intelligence, yet you'd think she was made of cardboard. You've never seen such shoddy hardware. Bits keep falling off. Limbs detach so often that this would have worked better as a zombie series, while at one point the landlady sees Makina's detached head lifted into the ceiling. Robot girls can swap heads and run off with someone else's body. The unsexy but omnipresent nudity makes this series hard to recommend, but it's a good-natured cartoon that occasionally made me laugh.
"Sorry, mister. I just thought I'd turn my dumb big sister around for profit as a way of making some easy money."
