VOLUME 1
At first, it looked super-sleazy. A succubus (Hiiragi) with big boobs and lurid outfits targets a human male (Kusakabe Makoto) for his semen. She needs it. It's a biological imperative for her.
Appearances are deceptive. No one ejaculates, nothing X-rated happens and by the end it's practically a 1950s family sitcom. The joke is that Hiiragi is gullible, serious-minded and might start apologising in aghast horror for anything, even when dressed like a stripper and trying to persuade Kusakabe to "donate". Meanwhile, Kusakabe's a pompous stick-in-the-mud who sees sexual temptation as a HORROR TO BE OVERCOME and is just as keen on doing the right thing as Hiiragi is. They'll be a lovely couple. Kusakabe just needs to get over himself and get a grip on his old-fashioned (albeit often unwitting) pseudo-courtship of Hiiragi.
As for Hiiragi, I've no idea exactly how/why she needs semen, because she seems fine with enforced celibacy. She doesn't starve to death. She doesn't even get thinner. Occasionally, she loses a bit of self-control, but that's it.
It's a romantic comedy. A sexy supernatural romantic comedy with an adorable, well-meaning succubus and a guy who's pretty decent when he pulls that stick from his arse. If I see volume 2, I'll buy it.
VOLUMES 2-4
This series only has four volumes, so I might as well read the whole thing.
It definitely isn't porn. You could more or less read it with children around. No sex scenes, no orgasms and nothing you couldn't show on prime time TV. Nudity is almost vanishingly rare and never shows naughty bits, although there are plenty of wild outfits. Hiiragi's succubus form looks naked when viewed from behind, is hardly much better from the front and can be extremely distracting in side view.
The cast expands. We meet Kusakabe's mother (expected to be his ultimate weapon against sexual temptation because who's going to get horny with their mother in the room?) and his little sister Mami (who likes him a lot and roomshares with a generous but half-witted succubus). We also meet more demons. Itsuki is Hiiragi's best friend and becomes a staunch ally, albeit one with a questionable personality. Nazuna is a dork and has terrifying tastes, which fortunately have run into a brick wall and now she's set her sights on helping humans get their rocks off without her. She lends them demonic seduction tools. Then, finally, Asa has the most character depth but is also the nearest thing this series has to a determined, competent villain.
I quite enjoyed this one. It made me laugh and the whole cast has comedy potential. I enjoyed Hiiragi's evil faces when jealous of Mami, for instance, or the results of succubi underestimating Kusakabe's deranged level of self-control. Our hero also has some brilliant panels of deadpan-overreacting-to-the-sexy. The manga's also far less credibility-straining than you'd expect, bar the mystery of why succubi need semen but can abstain from it for months or years without ill-effect. Reasons are provided for everyone's actions. On a character level, it holds together.
And, importantly, it's thoroughly likeable. No one here is evil and our central couple are especially daft-but-nice.
