Imori 201
This volume's quite fun, with Imori herself being a laugh. She's a beer-guzzling nutcase who's determined to be a high school girl forever (current age: 21) and goes around in a school uniform and a school swimsuit. Yes, both at once. That means she can flip her skirt whenever she likes and it's not a panty shot, right? She can be outrageous and she becomes so well-known to the police that they'll join the manga's regular cast and participate in the public bath chapters.
Initially, I hated Kawashima (the token male protagonist in an otherwise all-female cast). He's failed his university entrance exams twice and he's supposedly studying for a third attempt, but all he seems serious about is ogling girls. His plan for getting to know one was to hope for a female next-door neighbour. Imori makes him look normal in comparison, though, and he soon becomes a perfectly acceptable manga everyman.
The manga turns fanservicey at the public bath (chapter 7) towards the end of this volume. Imori's boobs and arse had always been prominent features, but only underneath clothes. (More or less, basically.) Here, no. Don't read it on the train to work.
Unfortunately, until then, this manga had been quite good. Imori makes me laugh, e.g. getting drunk and playing yakyuuken at school. It's a shame about chapter 7, because it'll narrow the potential audience of a lively, funny, slice-of-life manga... unless you just roll your eyes and say "sod it, it's just the mandatory hot springs chapter". I imagine it was popular with the target audience, though, especially since one police officer has breasts so large that she can use them for pest control. "Look, a mosquito!" SMACK THEM TOGETHER. Overall, this feels like the kind of silliness the manga industry has been churning out for years, but quite well done and more memorable than a lot of better-known series. I'm slightly surprised it never got an anime adaptation... but I haven't read the other four volumes yet and maybe they went off the rails in some way.
