I looked for this during my "Japanese zombie movies" marathon, but couldn't find it. Having at last unearthed it, it hardly feels like a zombie film in the first place.
Yes, it has zombies. A scientist injects people with green fluid that he calls a "vaccine". HINT: if you're in a zombie movie and someone offers you a green injection, say "no". Mind you, the yellow fluid that'll be injected into the teachers is no better. (I don't get it. Do teachers have different biology? Why should one group need its own "vaccine" of another colour?) Afterwards, the injected victims do indeed turn homicidal and have zombie make-up... but it's not what you think. This film's "zombies" can:
(a) talk and attack people with weapons, seeming psychopathically evil rather than mindless.
(b) if female (i.e. Mariko-sensei), remove their shirts and approach colleagues in the male's toilets, saying "I like you", "I love you" to get their bras removed and breasts nuzzled. What follows involved scissors, being tied to a chair and things that made me cringe. Ewwwww. That was gross enough to feel almost out-of-character in a film that's basically just silly and sleazy. (It's surprisingly serious about gore, though.)
(c) show off their juggling skills.
(d) yell at the film's heroines not to interrupt gruesome "experiments".
A villain has a hypnosis flute that makes girls undress, although its music sometimes sounds like a church organ. This villain had previously peeled off his face to show that he was a completely different man underneath. That's one of those TV/movie things I can't believe in. We're not talking about minor, discreet prosthetics here. It's solid rubber encasing your entire head. Would this ever look realistic? Why would you bother? Apart from anything else, you'd get really hot. Oh, and this bloke deliberately injects himself with the green fluid to turn himself into another zombie. As anyone would, obviously.
How sleazy is this film? Significantly. The surprise is that some of its female cast HAVEN'T done hardcore porn. There's a lesbian sex scene. (Girls, was that the time?) Dirty scenes are also liable to be horror and/or simply weird, though, e.g. hypnosis flute sex.
Also, the ordinary-looking schoolgirl heroine, Aki (Sasa Handa) slits multiple throats, breaks a neck and can kill with a laser beam shot from her groin. I don't think there's anything hidden up there. It's just a talent she has. She also spins flick knives in the shower and apparently practises killing people every day.
So... yeah, it's bonkers. Yes, it's a zombie film, but mostly it's crazy Japanese low-budget sleaze with buckets of blood and a surprisingly nasty streak. Plus a chainsaw. I guessed this wouldn't be a normal zombie film when the swimming team coach got messily stabbed to death in the shower room before anything's happened (although he'd been hitting schoolgirls and ordering someone with a fever to go in the pool anyway). The girls declare swimwear to be their "battle suits", which works better through silly exploitation film goggles than as anything you'd say if going to fight zombies.
Is this a good film? Don't be ridiculous. Is it memorable? Occasionally, but for trashy reasons. Is it entertaining? If you have a sense of humour and don't expect quality or take it too seriously, yes.
